About
My most recent books are Recycling Starlight (Mountains and Rivers Press, 2010), The Night Marsh, Lizard Light: Poems From the Earth, and Buried in the Sky. And The Beastie Book, my children’s alphabestiary of rhyming poems for completely imaginary “beasties”, with marvelous illustrations was published late December of 2009. Widely published in journals and anthologies, I have won three poetry fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The Mary Carolyn Davies Award from the Poetry Society of America, and the William O. Douglas Nature Writing Award. Most recently, I enjoyed a fellowship / residency at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) in January, 2010. After my husband William J. (Bill) Higginson’s death in October, 2008, I moved to the South Jersey shore are to be closer to my daughter and her family. I continue to work as a teaching poet for the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, as well as an independent teaching artist in the schools.
